Post-Apocalyptic Brightness
I read something this morning (http://testpattern.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/08/06/1248640.aspx) that I found interesting. The blog touches on the portrayal of the future as not so bright in the movies. While futures can vary wildly from one vision (Planet of the Apes) to the next (Waterworld), they all seem to have in common some major catastrophe happening to the world. Technology run amok also seems to be a theme (I, Robot; Minority Report, Blade Runner) and it's this latter theme that I think it most realistic. No matter the technology, someone will always pervert it to their own negative use, but hopefully the positive uses will outweight the negative. I look forward to a car the drives me to work (in lieu of a Star Trek-like transporter), but not to watching out for evil/misguided androids lurking about.
