Wordscraper is no Scrabulous

Well, Scrabulous disappear from Facebook this week and was eventually "replaced" by Wordscraper (from the same developer brothers). Not merely a facelift, they've made some significant tweaks to scoring and gameplay. I just want to play Scrabble. Perhaps I need to check out the official Scrabble application, but I haven't heard great things. Or maybe I'll pull out the Scrabble board at home and we can play face to face...

October Road

I read that the cancelled series October Road was going to film a 15 minute finale to explain what happened and where things went with the characters. I love this idea. Having loved more than my fair share of soon-to-be-cancelled shows (Lyon's Den and Life As We Know It), I think this should almost be a requirement. It would also help if unaired shows were burned off either on TV (perhaps in a marathon) or made available online. They definitely should be made available via streaming services like NetFlix. Imagine knowing how things end up instead of wondering. I realize this could turn out like the last episode of Everwood where almost too many loose ends are neatly tied together quickly (and they had an hour!). Too bad I'm just a computer programmer and not in charge of a television network...

Smog Olympics

I wonder how much technology NBC will be using to clean up the images from Beijing to hide the amount of smog that is there. It sounds like it's a crap shoot on the air quality and that they only have some short term solutions. Seeding clouds to get more rain to removing 90% of the cars from the streets seems a little drastic. Perhaps a longer term solution should be in the making. Well, I've got to go make my tea in my Made In China mug...

Facebook connections

One might argue that using the Internet (or Facebook in this case) to connect with close friends is kinda weird and impersonal. I think that depending on how you do it, that could be the case. If it is the sole interaction with them, then yes, it probably is a problem. That being said, it can help you learn and bond with them on a different level. Whether it's sharing quizzed, seeing what their status says, or whatever, it's kinda cool.

I really like the ability to connect with old friends and acquaintances. Normally they are people I might not ever hear from again or just think about and never get around to contacting. With more and more (~250K/day?!) people joining, it makes re-connecting with people even easier.
