London 2012 and Beyond!

So the Olympics have finally wrapped up with some exciting (4x400 women and basketball) and also lackluster (4x100 men and women, 5K men) performances by the Americans. Now it's time to evaluate the games. I'm guessing that softball and baseball are definitely out as sports, but how about adding some new sports to the mix? I'm not saying to take existing sports and make them Olympic sports (although that's not a bad idea - hello BMX Supercross), but how about combining or drastically changing existing sports to make them all new?

- I joked about synchronized pole vaulting in an earlier post. Imagine adding judging to the mix.
- 50 meter diving - imagine the twists/turns/flops/splashes that could result! The current scoring system would have to be re-vamped of course
- 50 meter mountain bike diving - This may fit more in the X-Games, but perhaps the two (Olympics and X-Games) should work more closely together. We could use more Flying Tomatoes doing the snowboard half-pipe
- Triathlon relay - each leg has a different athlete with specialized skills

I think that's it for my brainstorming this morning!
